“we knew we were tied and knew we had to win,” edewaard said. “our team motto this year is, ‘show them what crazy can do,’ and we really got after that. everyone knew what we were fighting for. it was intense. the excitement was just insane. it was an honor to be able to represent my team like that. hope has a great team with a long history like us. they showed us what they were made of to, and it is an honor to compete against them.”

calvin’s hannah chao, hannah brown, edewaard (holland christian) and emily gunderson won the final 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:31.07.

albion won the men’s meet with 933.5, followed by calvin (838), hope (693), kalamazoo (546.5), olivet (330) and alma (187).

hope’s emily kurt, jenna kloosterman, emma schaefer and tarah lang took third (3:33.15).

schaefer won her third event of the meet, claiming the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:20.78. she was named the miaa most valuable swimmer.

“that was really exciting and unexpected,” schafer said. “i am just grateful for the opportunity with my teammates. we just tried to embrace that opportunity. coach always said pressure is a privilege, and we were just trying to feed off of that.”

teammates aubrey east (2:27.55) and paule nolte (2:27.58) went 4-5 and erica slenk (holland christian) won the consolation final to finish ninth (2:32.53).

hope’s emma engle won the 1,650 freestyle (17:41.14), leading a 1-3-4 finish for the flying dutch to spark the final day.

“it was crazy. halfway through, i realized i could get this,” engle said. “considering last year, i had a torn shoulder and got dead last in the mile, it was just really exciting to go from that to winning it.”

paige kuhn (hamilton ) was third (17:59.02) just ahead of abby laduke (west ottawa), who finished just two hundredths of a second behind in 17:59.04.

红包扫雷源码免费下载“we always joke that we are twins at practice because we go the same times and tie all the time. we are always next to each other,” kuhn said. “having abby next to me, i knew it would be good. she always pushes me. it meant a lot to score those points for the team. every point matters.”

“it was really fun being next to paige and seeing emma there in front,” laduke said. “touching together was really exciting after racing like that.”

“it wasn’t the swim i was hoping for and for a while, i actually felt like i let the team down,” ellens said. “but i took it out too fast. it was still a good swim and got us to where we needed to be in the end. i knew our relays could do it. winning means a lot, and we did enough to get there.”

do did albion’s rileigh eding (hamilton) won her third event of the meet, taking the 100 freestyle in 51.81.

“it hasn’t sunk in yet,” eding said. “it gives me goosebumps. i don’t know if it will ever sink in. i am so glad to end my career on a high note. i will always be able to look back and tell my kids about this someday. it has been a wild ride.”

edewaard was fifth (53.48) and hope’s jenna kloosterman (hamilton) was 10th (54.19).

in the men’s meet, albion won it’s third title in four years, led by zeeland native connor robertson, who won the 200 backstroke (1:49.82).

calvin’s julian iturbe won the 100 freestyle (44.51) ahead of hope’s gabe boonstra (44.93). iturbe won the miaa most valuable swimmer. calvin’s jacob heeres (holland christian) was fifth (46.06).

“this last session, i just wanted to go out and have fun. i love all the boys on the relay, and it was so fun to just swim it with them and get the win, even if we didn’t get the (team) championship,” heeres said.

hope had some strong performances on the final night.

hope’s bailey smith won the 1,650 freestyle (16:02.91). brant assink (holland christian) was sixth (16:36.68). hope’s kamaron wilcox won 3-meter diving (474.65) to sweep the diving events and earn miaa most valuable diver.

but there was no topping the britons.

albion’s tyler kimbrell won the 200 breaststroke (2:02.75). hope’s jack muller was fourth (2:06.48).

albion’s mac robertson (zeeland) was eighth (17:13.66) in the 1,650 freestyle to close his collegiate career.
